She's The Boss
Our founder Michelby L. Whitehead began her media career as an undergraduate at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA. Her first “proud moment in PR” was media training a client for the Oprah Winfrey talk show. After graduating in 2008, she became employed in New Orleans at the national headquarters of ACORN (Association for Community Organizations for Reform Now) where she served as its online communication coordinator.
Eventually, the organization dissolved all its U.S. offices, and Michelby found herself unemployed.
Refusing to let her degree and her passion for communications go to waste, Michelby began to build her brand as a publicist while working in elementary, secondary, and higher education. In 2013, Michelby & Co. became a dream realized.
“If you want to be your own boss, start where you are until you’re able to do what you love full-time. I probably have a ton of press releases saved on the computers of my former jobs, but all is fair in the pursuit of self-employment!”
In addition to this, Michelby serves as the All Girls Matter Program Coordinator for Tragil Wade-Johnson's Big Sisters of America Foundation.
Naturally, writing has always been Michelby’s favorite pastime. She is the author of the Write on Time! Prompt & Perfect Pitch Angles That Get Media Attention.
“Anyone with a budget can buy an ad. It takes special expertise to earn publicity.”
